Standing in the press room at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa radiated confidence ahead of Wednesday night’s decisive Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich (9:00 p.m. CEST, Orange TV, Movistar Liga de Campeones).
“We’re all highly motivated,” he said. “We’re convinced we can do it and ready for a great match. This is Real Madrid, if any team believes it can turn things around here, it’s us. With 15 European Cups behind us and players returning to action, we’ll show our pride and our crest on the pitch.”
High Standards and Clear Strategy
Arbeloa underlined that Real Madrid would need to reach elite levels in every area emotional, mental, tactical, and physical. “We need to give everything and play with personality. Bayern will have their fans behind them, but we must show who we are a team with character and class.”
Addressing the absence of Tchouaméni, Arbeloa noted the depth of his squad: “We have many options Camavinga, Valverde, Ceballos, or Thiago can all play there. I already know tomorrow’s lineup, and I have full faith not only in the starters but also in the substitutes. The match will be long, and everyone will have a role.”
No Miracles, Just Madrid
When asked about whether a comeback in Munich would require a miracle, Arbeloa smiled. “Winning here isn’t a miracle. In the first leg, their goalkeeper was the best player on the pitch that says enough. We had our chances. Anyone who knows Real Madrid knows that this team never stops believing.”
Respect for Bayern, Focus on Themselves
The coach praised Bayern as “a great team with history, character, and mentality.” He added, “This could easily be a preview of the final. But our focus must remain on ourselves on what we can do and control.”
Real Madrid’s legacy of comebacks fuels their mindset, Arbeloa emphasized. “This club has built its story on overcoming challenges that seemed impossible. We’re ready to give our all to extend that story.”
Pride, Passion, and the Madrid Mentality
Returning to the Allianz is nothing new for many of his players. “We know this stadium, we know the atmosphere and we enjoy it,” Arbeloa said. “Real Madrid players thrive under pressure. These are the matches where they give their best.”
Ending the conference, Arbeloa reiterated his belief in his players and the club’s DNA of perseverance: “Not many teams can say they’ve lifted the European Cup 15 times. We believe we can do it again. The players believe it, the club believes it and so do the fans.”
