At the heart of this success is Cristian Chivu. In his debut season as a first-team head coach, the Romanian tactician has guided Inter to the summit of Italian football, replicating the success he previously enjoyed within the club’s youth ranks.
A Record-Breaking Debut
Chivu has etched his name into the Inter record books by becoming the first manager in the club’s history to clinch the league title in his very first season in charge. The mathematical certainty of the title came after a clinical 2-0 victory over Parma—a result that secured Inter’s third Scudetto in the last six years.
The scenes of celebration at the final whistle underscored the magnitude of Chivu’s achievement, silencing skeptics who questioned his initial lack of senior managerial experience.
The “Marotta Rule” and Future Plans
Following the title celebrations, reports from Corriere dello Sport indicate that Chivu is prepared to put pen to paper on a new contract. This move aligns with the “Marotta Rule” a principle held by Inter President Giuseppe Marotta, stating that the club should never begin a new season with a manager whose contract expires the following summer.
Chivu’s current deal runs until June 2027, but the new agreement is expected to extend his stay at the San Siro until June 2028.

President Marotta was full of praise for the young manager, emphasizing his character and long-term potential within the organization.
“Chivu can and should remain at Inter for many years. He possesses extraordinary qualities,” Marotta stated.
“I will likely leave the club before he does. While some felt he lacked experience, we chose him based on his inner strength and leadership.”
Reflecting on the season, Marotta admitted that the dominance of the team surpassed expectations: “I never imagined we would win a championship so comfortably, nor that we would reach the Cup final. While our Champions League exit remains a point of reflection, it is part of the game. Next season, we will strive to improve our European performance.”
